Annual Review 2016

Clarke Foley 04 Jan , 2017

It has been another busy year at Clarke Foley . . .

The installation of the new Automatic Doors and the remodelling of the front entrance was our major building project at the start of the year. It has made the building much easier to use for our many visitors and, together with the new signage, has greatly improved the appearance of Clarke Foley.

Following a wide review, our café has seen many improvements; we now serve a delicious range of soup, sandwiches, light lunches, scones and cakes and fresh ground coffee from our new coffee machine. The outside café seating area is the perfect place for a coffee on a sunny morning.

During the year we have seen an increasing range of individuals, community groups, and organisations using the building. We have welcomed new groups such as the Ilkley Harriers. Three years ago we did not figure on the Ilkley Literature Festival programme. This year we are hosting 25 Festival events. It is good to have the building used much more and the increase in our lettings income makes a significant contribution towards running costs.

The Annual Public Meeting and Thank You Supper is now a major event providing both the opportunity to share our collective achievements and to simply say thank you to all who contribute to Clarke Foley’s success.

We have introduced new class attendance and fire registers. These provide us with valuable information on usage which is particularly useful when we are planning our programme and when requesting donations or applying for grants. They also help us keep track of the income from class fees as we get busier.

Many of our visitors are regulars but for new visitors and regulars we have established a Wecome Desk to help everyone who uses Clarke Foley. The desk is a first port of call for enquiies or questions about Clarke Foley. Currently open part-time, we are gradually recruiting volunteers so the desk can be open all the time

A new telephone system has been installed which makes both internal and external comunications much more robust.

When the sun shines . . . we make electricity! We use a lot of electricity during the day and our solar panels provide some of that electricity. We get paid for generating it too.

Staff continue to be involved in training activities and a number have received certificates or awards for training undertaken during the year. Well done to them!

We continue to fully meet all the legal requirements of a charity and a company limited by guarantee. We have all the necessary policies and procedures in place and these are reviewed annually.

We are fortunate to have a strong Board of Directors, all volunteers, with a wide experience who are all committed to achieving our aim for the Centre.

The Clarke Foley Centre is a registered charity (Charity No. 1109588) operating as a private company limited by guarantee (Company No. 5389427). The Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road, Ilkley, LS29 9DZ.
